I thought it'd be cool, and very useful to newbies, if we all shared what the single biggest income producer is for your sites. What monetizes the best? If you can include some info about your niche, that'd help put things in context.
I have one site that deals with grants, that is monetized with Adsense and affiliate links. Adsense is the winner on that one, because the site content itself isn't that great (there was a previous post on the forum about
writing for Adsense that applies here).
At Online Opportunity, I've stayed away from Adsense, but have tried some typical banners, and affiliate links. Affiliate links are the clear winner there. The readership is more sophisticated than that going to the grants site, and typically resistant to clicking ads. But a thoughtful review of a product or service with an affiliate link will still generate some immediate sales, and then the usual ongoing trickle as the post ranks in search engines.
What about everyone else? Does your niche affect which monetization strategy works best?
